“The Outsiders” will release a Giclee print of one of  Ron English’s most famous works ‘Grade School Guernica’.  The print will be available  in an edition of 95 priced at £225 each, exclusively from The Outsiders at 18.00 BST (that’s 19.00 in continental Europe, 13.00 on the east coast of America and 10.00am on the west coast) Thursday June 30th 2011.

Originally conceived for display at the Station Museum in Houston, Texas during 2006, the original ‘Grade School Guernica’, 27 feet wide and 12 feet high, is one foot wider and a further foot taller than even the giant Picasso painting that inspired it. While Ron is known for over-sized pieces it’s the largest work he’s ever made.

In comparison the print is a more manageable 100cm by 49cm (39.4 inches by 19.3 inches).

The history behind Grade School Guernica: during the 1930s Spain became a battleground between the warring international forces of fascism and communism, and in April 1937 the Basque town of Guernica was mercilessly bombed by Germany’s infamous Condor Legion. Picasso painted his Guernica to draw awareness to Spain’s plight, and a tapestry of it still hangs in the United Nations building, New York as a constant reminder. Ron English’s interpretation replaces Picasso’s figures with kids and toys, bringing to mind not only the infantilism of violence but also the often barbarous experience of childhood.

Marking the end of Bast’s ‘Botulism’ solo show at Lazarides Rathbone gallery, The Outsiders present ‘French Kiss’, an exclusive online release from Brooklyn’s finest. Despite being described as a print, each of the 15 editions is hand painted from top to toe.

Passing Through is a darker body of work visiting the concept of life and death.
This progression on the part of Hush reveals deeper, more mature paintings. Following
in suit with themes of the ephemeral, these works are inspired by Hushʼs frequent
travels and the graffiti he documents along the way. Each transient mark is evidence of
one action and one creative expression, despite its gradual degradation over time.

Hush has developed a process of layering and defacing his canvases to mimic years of
tags and wheat paste on a city wall. To begin, Hush covers the canvas with paint, graffiti
tags, and collaged photocopies from graphic novels and old comics. He then uses
blown up hand drawings of manga girls and screen prints them onto the canvas,
embracing the mediumʼs imperfections by masking off specific parts to be hand painted
in later. Hush paints and tags between screens to achieve a complex multilayered
texture, defacing the work to reference the weathered, transient quality of street art.
