“Beautiful and Damned” Pam Glew’s New Solo Show in London
Mauger Modern, “Beautiful And Damned”, Solo exhibition by Pam Glew
24. May 2011 – 29. May 2011
81 Rochester Row, London SW1P 1LJ

Pam Glew practices a unique bleaching technique on fabric and flags. She uses dye and bleach to deconstruct and distress vintage materials in her own breed of painting. Her current ‘beautiful and damned’ series references subjects from the 1920-30s, silent films and tragic stars of the screen. Her style reminds the works of Art Nouveau mostly because of her using of floral ornaments.

“Due Date” – a solo exhibition by Elbow Toe
Black Rat Projects, “Due Date” Solo exhibition by Elbow Toe
Opening: 10th March
10th March-8th April
Arch 461, 83 Rivington street, London EC2A 3AY

Under the name Elbow Toe, Brooklyn based artist Brian Adam Douglas has been pasting his distinctive woodcuts, stencil work, large-scale charcoal drawings and collages onto the walls of cities all around the world throughout the past decade. Now “Due Date” is his first solo exhibition in the UK.

In Douglas’ work family life is a staged performance, animals are manifestations of human emotion. Intertextuality has become the foundation for the development of his distinctive style. The result is a sophisticated visual language where personal metaphors begin to communicate universal truths.
The work is divided into two groups: a set of images on panels, and a set of images on paper.

Shining of the Black / Light
Bussey Building, Peckham Rye, “Black/Light” Installation by ROA, Phlegm, Robots
25th Februar – 5th March
London, SE1 54ST

The outer of the building, a disused waterhouse in Peckham, has been decorated with the distinctive animals from Belgian artist, ROA. Large scale monochrome characters and designs from British artist, Phlegm, complement ROA’s animals perfectly. As you enter the building into darkness, you are immediately handed a torch, inviting you to tentatively and quietly explore and discover the contents of the space. Shadows, ghostly figures and acoustic sounds, combined with projections create a feeling of total disorientation. Walking around we can identify a multitude of objects, animals, figures that form a hidden city.

Stik People occupy London
Subway Gallery, “SINGLE Stik”, Solo exhibition by Stik
3rd March – 26th March
Kiosk 1 Pedestrian subway / Edgware RD / Harrow RD London W2

Stik has been creating Stik people around London for over ten years, although androgynous and drawn from simple shapes, they are capable of conveying emotions, feelings and a complex body language.
On first sight the cheerful characters are simply here to beautify the street but they also carry deeper meanings.
Stik the artist himself was homeless for a period and you can detect in his art ideas relating to human weakness or vulnerability.
