Anton Unai personifies the creative philosophy represented by Joseph Beuys’ legacy: a profound belief in the sanctity of spontaneity, the poetry of chaos, and the rejection of traditional academia. As a self-taught artist, Unai’s installations are often the result of weeklong “actions,” improvised and created on-site using mostly found objects, or “golden garbage,” salvaged from the streets of his action.
Using materials that reflect the urban landscape, ordinary detritus like rusty sheet metal or yesterday’s newspaper, Unai’s work resurrects and reinvents the discarded relics of the modern masses. His art is at once rough and delicate, exposing sentimental and vulnerable humanity through violent gestures, provocative irony and messy compositions that defy traditional aesthetic boundaries. Meta-narratives, pop and subculture artifacts, religious iconography and a wide breadth of literary references are all present in his multifaceted installations, as well as allusions to art historical antecedents ranging from Basquiat’s urban poetry to Sir Howard Hodgkin’s abstract paintings as sculptural objects to Jonathan Meese’s theatrical symbolism.

Die Gruppenausstellung “Berliner Strasse” vermittelt in Form von Performance, Malerei, Video, Skulptur und Installation, welch überdurchschnittliches und eigenwilliges künstlerisches Talent in der noch jungen Berliner Urban Art Szene zu entdecken ist. In den Räumen des .BHC Kollektivs erschließt sich im typischen “Honecker-Schick” der 70er Jahre ein ehemaliges Kulturzentrum, das als Ort wahrhaft gelebter Urbanität und mit ca. 1800 QM Innen- und Außenfläche der ideale Ort für solch eine Ausstellung ist. Direkt am Berliner Alexanderplatz trifft so zum ersten Mal eine Auswahl aus den stärksten künstlerischen Positionen der heutigen Berliner Urban Art und Street Art Szene zusammen. Zumeist unberührt vom akademischen Korsett der Kunsthochschulen und inspiriert vom Straßenleben ihrer Stadt, zeigen die “Berliner Strasse” Künstler neuartige Ausdrucksformen, Medien und Techniken, die im internationalen Vergleich ihre ganz eigene Sprache gefunden haben.
Within performance, painting, video, sculpture and installation, the group exhibition ‘Berliner Strasse’ conveys the above-average and headstrong artistic talent that is waiting to be discovered in the young Berlin urban art scene. The .BHC Kollektiv, formerly a cultural center, offers the ideal space for this kind of exhibition, with its typical ‘Honecker-Chic’ 70s style, the lived-out urbanity it has seen and approximately 1800 square meters of space both inside and out. A selection of the best and brightest artists of today’s urban art and street art scene in Berlin will be coming together for the first time here, directly on Berlin’s Alexanderplatz. To a large part untouched by the academic corset of the art academies, inspired by the street life of their city, the ‘Berliner Strasse’ artists will be displaying novel means of expression, media and techniques that speak a very individual language, especially when compared to today’ s global scene. ‘Berliner Strasse’ has recently received written invitations for exhibitions in New York, London and Warsaw.

Vom 30. Oktober bis 15. November wird es in Berlin-Mitte zum wiederholten Male die Streetart-Gruppenausstellung Berliner Strasse zu sehen geben.
Diese will einen Überblick aktueller künstlerischer Positionen der Berliner Streetart und Urban Art Szene vermitteln und an die Erfolge internationaler Streetart-Ausstellungen und wie den Backjumps anknüpfen.
»Der Ursprung der Urban Art und Street Art ist zutiefst in den Berliner Strassen verwurzelt. Seit den späten 90er Jahren ist diese urbane Freifläche zum Medium für den künstlerischen Ausdruck einer globalen Avantgardistengruppe geworden. Mit seinem rohen und freiheitlichen Charme inspirierte das Nachwende-Berlin Künstler aus zahlreichen Metropolen ihre Werke im öffentlichen Raum zu platzieren«, heisst es in der Pressemitteilung.
Deshalb werden die Ausstellungsräume des .CHB (Labor für Zukunftskunst) ab Ende Oktober die Werke namhafter Streetartist unter dem Slogan Berliner Strasse beherbergen.
Zu sehen sein werden Arbeiten von jaybo, charlie isoe, daniel tagno, anton unai, xoooox, marok, mymo, alex flach, nomad, neon und emess!
Die .CHB findet ihr in der Karl-Liebknecht-Straße 9 in Berlin-Mitte.
